In an attempt to create a humanitarian corridor, 20 ships carrying more than 300 crew members, including Irish actor Liam Cunningham and Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg, left the port of Barcelona on Sunday for Gaza. The Global Sumud Flotilla is the biggest attempt to date to lift the long-standing Israeli naval embargo on Palestinian territories, and it will be the fourth attempt this year.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is one of the flotilla’s crew members. She has stated that “little by little every day people are waking up to this genocide” and has criticized the world for its silence about Israel’s violation of international law.

Liam Cunningham, an Irish actor most known for his involvement in the television series “Game of Thrones,” will also participate. A video of a girl singing while organizing her own funeral was shown by Cunningham during a press conference held in Barcelona before to the departure. “Fatima, the girl, passed away four days ago,” he stated.

The Irish actor asked reporters, “What kind of world have we slid into where children are making their own funeral arrangements? Ada Colau, the former mayor of Barcelona, also attended the farewell ceremony. Recalling that Barcelona was “the first city in Europe to break off institutional relations with Israel,” he emphasized the city’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause.
