According to officials, a gunshot involving US federal officers in Portland, Oregon, has injured two people. A statement from the city’s police department stated that a man and a woman had been sent to the hospital, but it was unclear how they were doing.
A Venezuelan gang member “attempted to run over” agents with his vehicle during a traffic check at 14:19 local time (22:19 GMT), according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The event occurred one day after a woman was shot and killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis, sparking protests against federal law enforcement operations in US cities around the country.
The passenger of the vehicle and target is a Venezuelan illegal alien affiliated with the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and involved in a recent shooting in Portland,” DHS said in a statement posted on X.
“The driver militarized his car and tried to run over the law enforcement officers when they identified themselves to the occupants. An agent fired a defensive shot out of fear for his life and safety. The driver fled the situation by driving off with the passenger.
