In response to a request from the Iranian government, US President Donald Trump announced that he is giving Iran an additional 10 days to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump threatened to destroy Iran’s entire oil infrastructure if it didn’t restore the vital canal within 48 hours on Sunday. Trump insisted that Tehran was eager to come to the table despite the Islamic republic’s cold reaction to an American peace offering while speaking at a Cabinet meeting earlier on Thursday. He disputed that he was frantic for a deal to end the war.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, said in public for the first time that Washington had presented a 15-point “action list” with Tehran through Pakistani officials, telling the Cabinet that there were strong signs” that Tehran was prepared to discuss an end to the fighting.
