Numerous indices demonstrate the continued starkness of wealth disparity within and within Europe. The median net wealth of households in the euro area was €123,500, according to the most recent report released by the European Central Bank in 2023. The lowest 20% of the population received only €2,000, while the highest 20% received €1.01 million.
At the same time, the number of extremely wealthy people on the continent is rising quickly. Over the previous five years, there was a 26% increase in the number of individuals with at least $30 million (€25.7 million) in wealth. They are categorized as ultra-high-net-worth people (UHNWIs) in Knight Frank’s Wealth Report 2026.
37,428 individuals entered this restricted group over the course of five years. This corresponds to an average annual growth of 7,486 members, or around 20.5 new members every day throughout Europe.Put differently, five Germans, on average, surpass the $30 million wealth threshold each day. Naturally, they don’t amass that riches all at once; instead, their assets progressively increase until they surpass the threshold. According to the IMF, Germany, the biggest economy in Europe, is ranked third in the world by GDP, behind the US and China.
