Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko’s resignation was accepted by the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday, leading to the dismissal of her administration and a reorganization of the cabinet. On July 12, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that a “reset” was necessary for the government.

Zelenskyy’s announcement that he had offered Svyrydenko a new position centered on collaboration with one of Ukraine’s “key partners” fueled rumors that she might become Kyiv’s next ambassador to Washington.

In US policy circles, Svyrydenko is well-known. She spearheaded the US-Ukraine minerals agreement discussions last year, which contributed to her rise to the premiership in the summer of 2025.According to Ukrainian media, Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of the state-owned energy business Naftogaz, who recently traveled with Zelenskyy to the NATO meeting in Ankara, Turkey, may take her position.

As Russia continues to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Koretskyi would assume office. As Moscow continues its campaign to deteriorate the nation’s electricity network, putting cities in the dark despite freezing conditions, Kyiv has stated that preparing the system for the upcoming winter is a major priority.
