Ukraine claimed to have struck two oil refineries in many strikes deep within Russia, along with patrol boats and other Black Sea vessels. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the strikes targeted the Slavneft-Yanos and Bashneft-Novoil refineries in an effort to reduce the amount of oil that Moscow “uses to finance” its war.

Mikhail Evraev, the regional governor of Yaroslavl, claimed that the “largest enemy drone attack” had set Slavneft-Yanos on fire. According to him, four persons were hurt. In the meantime, the southern city of Kherson reported a complete blackout, and Ukraine claimed that Russian assaults had killed at least 11 people. Russia claimed to have attacked transportation, energy, and gasoline infrastructure.

Major cities, oil infrastructure, and warehouses have been the target of increased bombardment by both Russia and Ukraine in recent weeks as the broad front line has remained essentially unchanged and all attempts to mediate an end to the conflict have failed. In February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Zelensky stated on Thursday that Slavneft-Yanos was over 700 kilometers (435 miles) from the Ukrainian border, while the damaged Bashneft-Novoil refinery in Russia’s Bashkortostan republic was roughly 1,300 kilometers (808 miles) away.
