Passengers who have used them have been much more likely to fall than those using the stairs provided by airports. È questa la conclusione di uno studio dell’Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza Volatoria (ANSV), pubblicato ad agosto 2026.
The study examined falls reported in Italy during boarding and disembarkation from 2023 to 2025. 85 of the 104 incidents involved passengers who used the forward integrated stairs of Boeing 737s. Il Corriere della Sera ha rilevato che questo rappresenta l’82% dei casi. (fonte in italiano)
The scale of the figures becomes even more apparent when compared to the total number of passengers. During the same period, the Irish airline carried approximately 27% of all passengers in Italy. The other carriers, accounting for the remaining 73 per cent, had 19 falls.
This tendency is not limited to Italy. Since 2021 Ryanair has recorded 489 falls on stairs, of which 360 (73 per cent) were on the Boeing 737’s integrated stairway. ANSV says that is three times more falls than on airport stairways.
ANSV employed the ECCAIRS system a digital platform overseen by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) – to log and study the incidents. The system collects and analyses aviation safety data from EU nations.
