Two years after the company was accused of becoming “woke” due to its contentious rebranding, Jaguar has unveiled its new electric vehicle. For parent firm JLR, which has spent billions reimagining Jaguar, introducing the all-electric Type 01 is a risk. The brand’s all-electric approach and the new car’s design have generated conflicting opinions.
The vehicle itself is a powerful four-door “Grand Tourer” with a long hood that purposefully resembles Jaguar’s iconic E-Type from the 1960s. However, the minimum price is £130,000 in the UK and $130,500 in the US.
The new vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds thanks to its powerful electric motors, which generate over 1000 horsepower. According to JLR, its range at “sustained highway speed” is up to 320 miles. The “most technically advanced, powerful and aerodynamic Jaguar ever engineered” is how the manufacturer characterises it.
On social media, however, there were conflicting responses to the Type 01’s launch on Tuesday.Facebook user Ken Katch said, “Looks like a Cybertruck and a Bentley Continental had an illegitimate child,” alluding to the controversial Tesla pickup.
