Active Clubs: A New Threat From the Far-Right to Fair Elections
SHARE

The far-right Active Clubs movement is spreading at a never-before-seen rate throughout North America and Europe, posing fresh risks to minorities and democratic elections.

The Active Clubs movement, which has a network of decentralised cells spread throughout most US states and EU member states, has combined mixed martial arts (MMA) with far-right extremism. Compared to traditional white supremacist groups, whose members are frequently mocked for being “keyboard warriors,” Active Clubs have expanded their appeal to reach a far wider audience by projecting a more palatable image to the public and fusing their extreme ideology with physical fitness, exercise, and mixed martial arts training.

Active Clubs place a strong emphasis on in-person interaction at the centre of their organisation, in contrast to these conventional hate groups, which are made fun of for mostly existing in online echo chambers. Active Clubs emphasise doing something right now, whether it’s kickboxing, weightlifting, hiking, or planning demonstrations. Although the ideology of Active Clubs is still akin to that of stale and hateful traditional white nationalist organizations, the movement has distinguished itself from others and grown rapidly due to two distinct factors: decentralized organizational structures and personal growth.
