US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he expects to visit Saudi Arabia as early as May to sign an investment pact, his first foreign trip of his second term, with visits in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. “It could be next month or a little later,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
According to four persons familiar with the situation, the trip is expected in mid-May. During his first term in 2017, Trump began his inaugural international trip with stops in Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Trump reiterated remarks made in early March, saying his trip to Saudi Arabia will be to finalise an agreement to invest up to $1 trillion in the US economy, including military equipment purchases. He anticipated that similar deals would be reached in Qatar and the UAE.
Tremendous jobs will be created in those two or three days,” Trump declared. The president did not comment on the terms of the agreements. Other possible subjects for discussion include Russia’s three-year-old war in Ukraine and the battle in Gaza, according to one source.
