At the renowned Prix Versailles, The World Architecture and Design Award, Zayed International Airport (AUH) was named the World’s Most Beautiful Airport in recognition of its exceptional architectural design in the Airports category.
In conjunction with the 53rd Eid Al Etihad celebrations and the airport’s first anniversary, the news was made during a ceremony held at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris.
Amidst fierce international competition, Zayed International Airport established a new benchmark for airport performance in just one year of operation by taking first place in this highly sought-after category.
This award honors the innovative architecture of Zayed International Airport, which skillfully combines state-of-the-art technology with the rich cultural legacy of the United Arab Emirates. With a unique X-shaped design and a 742,000 square meter footprint, AUH is a symphony of design and quality that can handle up to 11,000 passengers per hour and 79 planes at once.
By 2025, AUH will have doubled its capacity and be ready to handle up to 45 million passengers a year, setting the standard for the first nine biometric touchpoints in the globe.
