Samsung has officially launched its Galaxy S25 series, with the much-anticipated Galaxy S25 Edge expected to debut soon. As the tech giant continues to compete with Apple in the smartphone market, it has also revealed plans for its upcoming foldable devices and budget-friendly models for 2025. These details emerged during Samsung’s Q4 2024 earnings call, as reported by Android Authority.
Expanding the Foldable Lineup
During the earnings call, Samsung hinted at broadening its foldable smartphone range. While specific details about design and durability upgrades remain under wraps, the company confirmed its focus on diversifying its foldable portfolio.
Rumours of a more affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE have circulated for years, gaining momentum in recent months. Introducing a budget-friendly foldable could help Samsung attract a wider audience. Additionally, speculation suggests a Fold SE model might launch in more markets, further expanding the foldable lineup. Samsung typically unveils its foldable devices in the latter half of the year, so these new models are expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 in late 2025.
Mid-Range and Budget Offerings
Leaks about Samsung’s mid-range smartphones have also surfaced, particularly regarding the Galaxy A56. The device is rumoured to feature a redesigned camera module while retaining the flat edges and metal frame seen in the Galaxy A55. Notably, certifications suggest the Galaxy A56 will support 45W wired charging, surpassing even the standard Galaxy S25 in charging speed. However, it is expected to keep a 5,000mAh battery, with improvements in battery life likely coming from the Exynos 1580 chip and software optimisations.
On the budget end, Samsung continues to prioritise long-term software support. The Galaxy A16, for instance, is set to receive an impressive six years of software updates, outpacing many competitors in the affordable segment. While this commitment to software longevity is commendable, it suggests that major hardware upgrades in Samsung’s cheapest models may be limited.
A Strong Market Position in 2025
With the launch of the Galaxy S25 series and the planned expansion of its foldable and budget-friendly lineups, Samsung is poised to strengthen its position as a market leader in 2025. While its premium devices are expected to drive innovation, the company is also focusing on affordability and durability in its mid-range and budget segments, ensuring a well-rounded portfolio for consumers.
