The Dubai-based airline said on its website Friday night, March 21, that it will begin operating flights again between Dubai International (DXB) and London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on Saturday, March 22, starting with flight EK007 (DXB‑LHR). After a fire at a power plant powering Europe’s busiest airport forced the closure of the London airport, many flights operated by UAE carriers Emirates and Etihad were canceled on Friday. On Friday, Emirates cancelled flights EK001/002, EK029/030, EK031/032, EK003/004, and EK005/006 (all from Dubai to Heathrow) and EK008 from Heathrow to Dubai.

Emirates promised that passengers with confirmed reservations who continue on to London Heathrow Airport will be permitted to depart from the origin. Customers can inquire about rebooking alternatives for cancelled reservations by contacting their booking agent. For assistance, customers who made direct reservations with Emirates can contact the airline directly.

Many long-haul flights returned to their original destination, but due to LHR’s closure, many were forced to divert to other airports in Britain and throughout Europe. According to airline experts, the last major disruption to European airports was the 2010 Icelandic ash cloud that grounded almost 100,000 flights.
