Due to worries about free expression, President Donald Trump’s supporters oppose a bill in the US Congress that would further punish boycotting US-friendly nations, endangering the bill’s approval. According to Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, the House of Representatives has cancelled a vote on the measure that was originally planned for Monday.

Several conservatives close to the US president have expressed opposition to the International Governmental Organisation (IGO) Anti-Boycott Act, a bill that Trump’s Republican Party has been spearheading in recent days to tighten down on boycotts of Israel.

Greene posted on social media on Monday, saying, “It is my job to defend American’s [sic] rights to buy or boycott whomever they choose without the government harshly fining them or imprisoning them. According to well-known right-wing activist and commentator Charlie Kirk, the law shouldn’t pass.

Differing opinions are acceptable in America. You have the right to protest and dissent,” Kirk wrote on X on Sunday. “The right to free speech is a fundamental American right, but we have permitted far too many foreigners who despise America to settle here.”

Former Trump advisor and well-known right-wing media figure Steve Bannon supported Kirk and Greene’s remarks, posting on the social networking site Gettr the messages “Fact check: True” and “Agreed,” respectively.
