The United States and China will Meet in London to Discuss Trade

A fresh round of negotiations to end the US-China trade conflict is scheduled to begin in London on Monday. On Friday, US President Donald Trump declared that a high-level US team would meet with Chinese officials. Beijing stated over the weekend that Vice Premier He Lifeng would be present for the negotiations.

Following what the US president called a “very good talk” over the phone with Chinese leader Xi Jinping last week, Trump made the announcements. The two largest economies in the world reached a temporary truce last month to reduce import levies on items they trade, but both nations have since accused one another of breaking the agreement.

Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform on Friday that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will visit Chinese officials in London on Monday.

China’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that Vice Premier He will visit the UK from June 8–13 and that a meeting of the “China-US economic and trade mechanism” would be held during his visit. Trump said that his phone call with Xi on Thursday was mostly about trade and that it had “resulted in a very positive conclusion for both countries,” which prompted the fresh round of talks.
