Apple has agreed to pay some iPhone buyers a total of $250 million (£184 million) to settle a lawsuit accusing the corporation of deceiving customers about new artificial intelligence (AI) features and capabilities.

In a settlement filed Tuesday in California federal court, Apple did not admit any wrongdoing but agreed to a deal to resolve claims in a big consolidated class action case filed last year. It accused Apple of misleading advertising on its AI features on the iPhone, which the firm dubbed Apple Intelligence, including an upgrade to its Siri speech assistant.

Apple will pay $25 to $95 to US customers who purchased an iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 between June 2024 and March 2025. According to an Apple spokesperson, the lawsuit concerns “the availability of two additional features” from the Apple Intelligence deployment. We settled this problem so that we could focus on what we do best: providing our users with the most innovative goods and services possible,” she said. In a revised case filed last week for the consolidated class of iPhone customers, lawyers claimed that Apple’s touting of new AI functions constituted misleading advertising.
