Iran claims to have closed the Strait of Hormuz amid further strikes, but the US maintains that the route is open. After the US claimed to have hit more than 140 locations around Iran, hostilities, which had erupted once more this week, continued on Saturday.

Iranian soldiers targeted a ship traveling through the strait that they claimed was taking an unauthorized path, which prompted the attacks. Iran declared the waterway closed till further notice early on Sunday in an attempt to establish control over it.

The scope of hostilities increased on Sunday when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) started extensive attacks on US sites and allies around the area. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain all claimed to have reacted to Iranian missiles and drones, while it claimed to have struck a US installation in Jordan.

Regarding the incident in Jordan, the BBC has contacted US Central Command for comment. The UAE has not been attacked since May, while Qatar, a mediator in peace negotiations, had not been assaulted since April.
