Two days after a tsunami-like wall of water and debris swept away villages and killed hundreds, the number of persons missing in Nepal and China exceeded 2,400 on Friday, highlighting the severity of the disaster. As further floodwaters threatened, rescuers dug through mud to recover 586 bodies, some of which had been washed downstream as far as India.

Tragically, 933 hydropower workers were added to the list of missing persons by Nepal’s disaster authorities. This list previously included hikers and pilgrims to Mount Kailash in Tibet, among others. In the heartbreaking search for their loved ones, relatives have flocked to hospitals in the capital of Nepal, where posters containing the names and images of the missing adorn the walls.

We still have no information as of today, the third day. As for her brother, 27-year-old Samjhana Thing told the AFP news agency that she hopes he is in a safe place. It was a total disaster. He means the world to us. A glacial collapse set in motion a massive flow of frozen debris, leading to the tragedy, which was the worst for Nepal since an earthquake in 2015, according to the US Geological Survey.
