Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, released a 6,500-word open letter titled “The Future is for Everyone” last week. Some see it as a sign of optimism about the potential of AI. For others, it’s just another wordy public relations ploy.

The most recent example of a tech CEO arguing that artificial intelligence is the next big thing is Zuckerberg’s manifesto. His perspective aligns with statements from other AI leaders: the product they are developing is one of the “most important technologies in history.

This trend may have begun in 2023 when Marc Andreessen, co-founder of the early web giant Netscape, wrote a 5,000-word essay titled “The Techno-Optimist Manifesto” in which he asserted that innovation was the solution to life’s problems. So they’re now drafting manifestos?” I recall thinking to myself.

In the beginning of his book, Andreessen described the falsehoods he believed were being propagated and urged readers to resist. He added, We think growth is progress leading to vitality, expansion of life, increasing knowledge, and higher well-being.
