In response to reports that Washington’s espionage services have been instructed to concentrate on Greenland in light of Donald Trump’s threats to annex the island, Denmark’s foreign minister says he will call in the US ambassador. It worries me greatly because we do not spy on friends,” Lars Løkke Rasmussen remarked in response to the Wall Street Journal revelation.

The publication claims that US espionage services were instructed to concentrate their efforts on the independence movement of the semi-autonomous nation and US objectives to mine its natural riches.

The Journal was accused by National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard of trying to “undermine” President Trump “by politicising and leaking classified information. She accused the publication of “breaking the law and undermining our nation’s security and democracy” but did not refute the allegation.

Rasmussen described the study as “somewhat disturbing” while in Warsaw for a meeting of EU ministers. In order to verify this information, we will invite the US acting ambassador to the foreign ministry for a meeting,” Rasmussen stated. Those that voice their opinions don’t seem to vehemently oppose it. That bothers me.
