Missile assaults have caused “extensive damage” to a key gas facility in Qatar, according to the nation’s state-run energy company. The Iranian attacks come after it was reported that Israel had attacked an Iranian petrochemical facility. The primary location in Qatar for manufacturing liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is used worldwide for cooking, home heating, and electricity generation, is Ras Laffan Industrial City.

Approximately one-fifth of the world’s LNG is produced there. The industrial hub’s additional facilities include an oil refinery, a gas-to-liquids plant, and LNG storage.

It is situated near the largest gas field in the world, which Qatar and Iran share, and 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of Doha, the country’s capital. Over 6,000 square kilometers (2,315 square miles) make up the Iranian side, known as South Pars, and the Qatari side, known as North Dome.

QatarEnergy, the governmental energy firm, is in charge of Ras Laffan. There are also a number of foreign energy companies operating there, such as the UK’s Shell and the US behemoths ExxonMobil and Chevron. Gas prices have skyrocketed as a result of the attack on Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial area.
