Kaja Kallas, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has endorsed Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil refineries as a legal strategy to put an end to Russia’s aggressive war, claiming that terminating the conflict is the fastest way to do it. In an exclusive interview with Euronews, she stated, “If we look at international law, it is clear that [hitting refineries] is in defence of Ukraine because that is where the funding comes from for this war to kill Ukrainian people every day.”
The comments follow US President Donald Trump’s announcement of an agreement for Russia to supply over 300,000 tonnes of diesel in the midst of a worldwide energy crisis, along with an “energy ceasefire” that would prevent Russia and Ukraine from attacking each other’s energy infrastructure.
In the grand scheme of things, oil provides the majority of the funding for this conflict. In order to inflict as much agony as possible on the Ukrainian people during the impending winter, Ukraine is likewise targeting them [the refineries], while Russia is targeting the country’s internal energy infrastructure,” she stated.
