Pizza Hut used to be a popular spot for families and friends to enjoy its self-serve ice cream with all the toppings, endless salad bar, and all-you-can-eat buffet. However, after being bought out of administration for the second time this year, fewer people are “hitting the Hut” these days, and it is closing half of its UK outlets.

“We used to go to Pizza Hut when I was a child,” Prudence recalls in response to a BBC question about why London consumers believed the restaurant company was having trouble. “It was like a family thing, you’d go on a Sunday – make a day of it.” She says, however, “it’s not a thing anymore” now that she is 24.

Operating Pizza Hut’s all-you-can-eat strategy has become extremely costly due to skyrocketing food prices. In the same way, its 132 restaurants are being reduced to 64.

Like many others, the company has seen expenses rise. The minimum wage increased by over 7% this year to £12.21 for workers aged 21 and over, and employer national insurance contributions also increased, which caused a spike in staffing costs in April of this year. According to Chris, 36, and Joanne, 29, they used to go out on dates “every now and then” to Pizza Hut, but these days they order from Domino’s because they believe Pizza Hut is “overpriced.
