Boyd Lowry’s Career Trajectory

We started the interview by asking, “Could you share some background about yourself, including your early life and educational journey?”

Boyd Lowry shared, “I served in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman, and I took part in the invasions of Grenada and Beirut. After my military service, I went to college and earned a degree in Business focusing on Human Resources and Personnel Management. I began my professional career working in the HR department at NYU in New York City. From there, I moved to New Jersey and spent four years working in recruitment and staffing for various companies. During that time, I advanced to the role of Recruitment Manager.

Eventually, I changed careers and began working in the Packaging & Printing industry, focusing on warehouse operations and operational systems. I traveled across the country, and even internationally. I worked on troubleshooting corporate-wide solutions in Warehousing. Strategic planning for networks, and IT systems, often working hands-on with clients.”

“Following that, I started my own company, Lowdel LLC as the CEO. Then I transitioned into a franchise business that brought me back to my roots in human resources and service. I’ve been in this field for over 12 years now, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of aging adults and their families.

I’m the CEO of a thriving Home care services company in an expanding market. There are alternative solutions to care that are developing and emerging, which make care delivery and service new and innovative. What Makes a Great Leader: Boyd Lowry’s Perspective

We further asked, “In your view, what qualities define a successful leader in your industry?”

Leadership in the home care industry demands a unique blend of dedication, adaptability, and compassion; qualities that set successful leaders apart in an environment saturated with care providers and heightened regulatory requirements. I believe several key qualities make a successful leader. With discipline and integrity, one can create distinctive services, helping one stand out amidst the competition. My military service instilled in me discipline, resilience, and a commitment to service. These traits directly translate to leading a team dedicated to caring for others.

A guiding sense of purpose, grounded in faith and a commitment to serving seniors at end-of-life stages, fosters not only strong leadership but also a supportive, empathetic culture within the organization. Moreover, success in this highly regulated industry relies on HR excellence and constant investment in staff development, ensuring the team’s loyalty and dedication. Leaders must develop strategic foresight, ensuring seamless management of extensive regulations, mandatory accreditations, and frequent licensing renewals for both caregivers and the business itself,” explained Boyd.

“With over 500 home care companies in the area, the ability to persevere in the face of stiff competition is critical. Differentiation is achieved through Veteran services, faith-based outreach, and personalized client relationships. My leadership is influenced not only by my own experience as a Marine but also by a family tradition of service—my father was a global minister and nonprofit leader, and my mother served as a visiting nurse in our local community, reinforcing the importance of leading with kindness, empathy, and a commitment to making a difference.

In a field filled with challenges; regulations, competition, and the ever-growing needs of seniors. A successful leader must combine operational excellence with genuine compassion, service-mindedness, and a steadfast dedication to both team and community. These are the qualities that I believe define leadership in home care,” he added.

Embracing Innovation and Digital Transformation

With technological advancements playing a crucial role in businesses across industries, we were interested to learn how Boyd Lowry’s organization has adapted to the ongoing digital revolution.

Boyd Lowry responded, “Our organization has proactively embraced the digital revolution to ensure seniors and their families have seamless access to care, resources, and support; whenever and wherever they need it. We have created a comprehensive digital presence by leveraging all major social media platforms to foster communication, share vital care updates, and highlight our services. Our targeted use of pay-per-click (PPC) campaigns, SEO, and chatbots ensures we remain highly discoverable and responsive to urgent inquiries.

Recognizing the importance of education and storytelling, we regularly publish informative blogs, articles, and personal stories across our website and in local publications, especially around dementia care, inspired by personal family experiences, to help families navigate challenging topics and make informed decisions. Moreover, we are focused on building an online support ecosystem for seniors and their loved ones. We maintain open channels for dialogue, promptly responding to questions and facilitating connections between families and our care team during emergencies.”

He even mentioned, “Having witnessed the profound impact of dementia and elder care within my own family, I am deeply dedicated to using digital platforms not just for outreach, but for advocacy and education. Also, being committed to continuous improvement, we continuously evaluate and enhance our digital tools and presence, ensuring accessibility, transparency, and reliability for those seeking care in Bergen County.

Through these efforts, we have transformed our approach to care—bridging technology and compassion—to better serve the needs of our community.”

Words of Wisdom for Beginners: Insights of an Expert

Addressing the next-gen leaders of his field, we asked Boyd Lowry, “What advice would you offer to someone beginning their career in your field?”:

Boyd Lowry shared, “Entering the home care industry is both rewarding and challenging. Here’s my advice for those considering a career in this field. Firstly, understand the landscape with thorough research to identify where your skills are most needed and which areas offer genuine opportunities for impact and growth. Also, lead with service, compassion, and integrity, as this field requires a deep commitment to service, empathy, and respect for the dignity of each client.

With increasing competition in traditional home care, look beyond standard roles, including care management and concierge services, specialized senior services, or even opportunities in consulting and technology integration, as these are facing a rising demand. Additionally, reflect on your unique strengths and how they complement current and future needs in the industry, and if required, seek additional certifications or education. And finally, adaptability is the key to survival in any industry, so stay informed about legislative changes, innovations, and emerging best practices to remain relevant and effective in your role.

Begin your career with an open mind and a commitment to lifelong learning. Focus on developing specialized skills, embrace change, and above all, let compassion and service guide your work. This approach will not only help you stand out but will also allow you to make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and their families.”
