Following a shooting at a tavern in South Africa that resulted in nine fatalities and ten injuries, a manhunt is underway. About 12 unidentified gunmen arrived in two vehicles and started fire on customers in Bekkersdal, near Johannesburg, according to police, killing seven men and two women.

The gunmen “continued to shoot randomly as [people] fled the scene” after the incident, which occurred at around 1:00 local time on Sunday (23:00 GMT Saturday), according to the police. The murder rate in South Africa is among the highest in the world. Police statistics show that between April and September of this year, an average of sixty-three individuals were killed per day.

Arguments, robberies, and gang violence are frequently the cause of murders. This attack’s motivation is unclear. Maj-Gen Fred Kekana, the deputy provincial police commissioner at the scene, told radio Newzroom Afrika that the perpetrators, who had one AK-47 and pistols, were “unprovoked.

People came and shot while the poor customers were just having fun,” he claimed. Maj-Gen Kekana stated that a third fatality was a taxi driver who had dropped off a passenger nearby, and two victims were shot outside the tavern as they attempted to escape.
