According to the Trump administration, an inquiry into Brazil’s “unfair” trade practices has been started. As to the US trade representative’s statement, it would encompass the actions of the Brazilian government “pertaining to digital trade and electronic payment services; unfair, preferential tariffs; anti-corruption interference.
The purpose of the inquiry is to ascertain if they are “unreasonable or discriminatory and burden or restrict US commerce. U.S. President Donald Trump called on Brazilian authorities to stop pursuing former President Jair Bolsonaro last week, calling it a “witch hunt.
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that Trump ordered the investigation “into Brazil’s attacks on American social media companies as well as other unfair trading practices that harm American companies, workers, farmers, and technology innovators.
I think that Brazil’s tariff and non-tariff barriers warrant an in-depth examination and potentially, reactive action,” according to him. Greer stated that by granting other trading partners lower tariffs, Brazil was harming American exports.
For not managing political opinions, Brazilian enterprises engaged in digital commerce and services will be subject to investigation. Further, the agency said that US workers “whose fortunes are tied to America’s innovation- and creativity-driven sectors” were harmed by the inadequate enforcement of creative property rights.
