Donald Trump has cancelled strikes against Iran, if a deal is achieved “rapidly” with the country, he said. I was asked by Iran and other countries in the Middle East to ‘hold off’ on any attack as the ‘perimeters’ of a deal had been agreed,” the US president claimed in a post on Truth Social.

Trump’s comments followed allegations that the US and Israel may have been contemplating new, severe assaults on Iran. It’s not the first time Trump has delivered apocalyptic warnings, then said diplomacy was being given a chance. Trump’s comments were “nothing but a new lie” and disputed that Tehran had asked the US to delay any further military action, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency said.

Iran’s interim Defence Minister Majid Ibn al-Reza said Tehran saw any threats from its enemies as “real and credible” even if they were part of psychological warfare.“We won’t be surprised, we won’t be on the back foot,” he said. The elevated tones followed claims in the US media that the US and Israel were planning one of the toughest bombing operations so far against energy infrastructure targets in Iran.
