President Donald Trump has been defending his controversial military attacks on suspected drug-trafficking vessels in the Caribbean close to Venezuela by citing made-up characters. During his address last week, Trump said that “each boat kills about 25,000 people.
He stated in a speech on Sunday that “each of those boats is accountable for the loss of 25,000 American lives and the dismantling of families.” “Probably saved at least 100,000 lives, American lives Canadian lives by taking out all those boats coming in,” he claimed Tuesday at the White House while seated next to Canada’s prime minister.
The provisional federal data indicates that approximately 82,000 people died from drug overdoses in the United States in 2024. The number does not reach 100,000 even after including reported opioid and stimulant deaths from Canada.
In other words, Trump is basically saying that less than a year’s worth of lives were avoided because he chose to bomb a few boats in the Caribbean (at least four US strikes have occurred since the beginning of September.
