A tour bus collided on the New York State Thruway in western New York, killing five persons, according to New York State Police. Witnesses witnessed the car lose control and flip over as the party was on its way back to New York City from Niagara Falls on the US-Canada border, according to the police. Police said the majority of the victims are tourists from China, India, and the Philippines.
Local authorities “are working to rescue and provide assistance to everyone involved,” according to New York Governor Kathy Hochul. At the crash scene, which is 30 miles (48 km) east of Buffalo, close to the town of Pembroke, ambulances and medical helicopters were dispatched.
Police reported that the 52 passengers were between the ages of one and seventy-four when the collision occurred. The majority of the casualties, according to authorities, were not wearing seatbelts, and several were flung from the car when it crashed. Others spent hours trapped within the wreckage. Hospitals and the site were equipped with translators and translation tools to aid in the inquiry.
At a press conference, New York State Police troop commander Andre Ray major stated: “The reason of the incident is still being investigated. Both operator impairment and mechanical failure, however, have currently been ruled out.
