Apple intends to release significant updates to its original smartwatch line, the “Series” models, this autumn as the device approaches its tenth anniversary.
According to a Bloomberg report, the upgrades include larger screens and a slimmer profile, though the general design will stay the same. The screens on the Series 10, codenamed N217 and N218, will be about the same size as those on the Apple Watch Ultra. The Ultra, which was last updated in 2022, won’t see any major design modifications, though.
The Series 10 and the recently released Ultra 3 will both have a new chip under the hood, which could pave the way for additional AI improvements in the future. Nevertheless, the upcoming suite of AI features from Apple Intelligence will not initially be available for the Apple Watch; instead, it will only be available for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and eventually the Vision Pro.
We’re unsure if Apple will use the same branding for these watches for their 2025 anniversary release or a more lavish one. The company had flexibility in celebrating its anniversary when the original Apple Watch was announced in 2014 but released in 2015.
