Two of the top awards at the International Emmy Awards went to the UK television programs Rivals and Ludwig. At the New York ceremony, Rivals, an adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel, won best drama.
The Disney+ series, which stars David Tennant, Danny Dyer, and Emily Atack, centers on scandals involving the wealthy and influential in the made-up English county of Rutshire. Comedy-drama detective Ludwig, which starred David Mitchell and Anna Maxwell-Martin, won best comedy.
Maxwell-Martin, who was also nominated best actor for her role in the ITV true crime series Until I Kill You, had a big night. The best TV shows created and first broadcast outside of the United States are honored with these honors.
For the Spanish drama Yo, Adicto, a Disney+ series about a guy seeking expert assistance with addiction problems, Oriol Pla won best actor. With Rupert Everett and Hayley Atwell joining the ensemble for its second series, Rivals is seeing global popularity. Maxwell-Martin won for her portrayal of Delia Balmer’s association with a serial killer in an adaptation of her memoirs.
