After weeks of delays due to technological issues and claims of fraud, Nasry Asfura has been proclaimed the victor of Honduras’ presidential election. According to the National Electoral Council (CNE), Salvador Nasralla of the center-right Liberal Party received 39.5% of the vote. At the same time, the conservative National Party candidate, supported by US President Donald Trump, secured 40.3%.

Asfura wrote, “Honduras: I am ready to govern,  on X. I promise not to let you down. Respecting the outcome “so that Honduran authorities may ensure a peaceful transition of authority” is what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated.

Still, Luis Redondo, the president of the nation’s Congress, wrote that the outcome was “completely illegal. Election officials described the two technological faults that caused the count to be delayed as “inexcusable” on November 30.

Ana Paola Hall, the president of the CNE, attributed the delay to the commercial firm responsible for tabulating the findings. She claimed that the company had performed repairs without consulting the CNE or providing prior notice.
