Following a “brutal” knife attack in Belfast, a man who is thought to be Sudanese has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder, according to police. Following the incident in north Belfast on Monday at around 22:30 BST, the man, who is in his 30s, is still being held.
A video that has gone viral on the internet shows many individuals engaging the alleged attacker until the cops arrived, one of them brandishing a throwing staff. A man in his 40s who was hurt in the incident is in the hospital with a critical condition.
The incident was described as “sickening” by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who also stated that “absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets” will be tolerated. The prime minister remarked, “The terrible attack in Belfast last night is disgusting.” First and foremost, my sympathies are with the victim, and I express my gratitude to the first responders, including members of the public, for their intervention. On Monday night, Kinnaird Street in north Belfast received a call from emergency services. The victim’s face, neck, and back were severely injured.
Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson of the officers Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) stated that “a critical incident” has been reported and that officers have started an investigation to determine the cause.
