Spain is on the verge of greatness. At the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Luis de la Fuente’s team easily defeated France 2-0, securing their spot in the 2026 World Cup final with a display of maturity, spirit, and football prowess.
In a very difficult match, La Roja defeated one of the major favorites for the title once more. Early on, France attempted to set the pace, but Spain quickly gained possession and control of the middle. The stalemate was broken by Lamine Yamal’s quickness; the winger won a penalties after Lucas Digne challenged him, and Mikel Oyarzabal scored without error to give Spain the lead before halftime.
With the lead on the scoreboard, the Spanish team displayed the poise that has characterized their entire campaign. Mbappé and France’s potent offensive unit were neutralized by an absolutely disciplined defense, while Rodri and Fabián Ruiz dominated in the middle of the park. After the break, France attempted to respond but encountered a steadily strong Spain team, leaving goalkeeper Unai Simón essentially untested.
In the second half, Dani Olmo delivered the game-winning pass to Pedro Porro, who rushed forward from full-back with a striker’s instinct to beat Mike Maignan and make it 2-0, leaving the defending World Cup runners-up reeling.
