US President Donald Trump has continued his fierce criticism of Volodymyr Zelensky, saying the Ukrainian leader is “more difficult to deal with than Putin”.Trump also told US media Thursday evening that Ukraine’s latest wave of assaults on Russian oil refineries was a “disgrace”.
Zelensky, in Brussels for a summit with EU leaders, said he had halted the operations for three days at Trump’s request for a ceasefire on energy targets, but said on Thursday the strikes would go ahead because Moscow had not stopped.
Meanwhile, overnight lethal strikes on Ukraine continued, and dozens were murdered in a Russian drone attack in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, the regional governor stated. At least 19 persons were wounded, Oleg Synegubov stated on Telegram. Zelensky has not publicly responded to Trump’s recent accusation. Flanked by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa, he arrived to the summit in Brussels.
Of course we backed President Trump’s energy truce but we saw that Russia did not follow it, not one minute,” Von der Leyen told journalists. “Russia escalated and so we have to increase sanctions on Russia. We will not lift any sanctions if Russia does not stop the war.
