One person has been murdered in a nocturnal attack on St Petersburg which managed to hit two of the city’s oil facilities. Fires were being quenched at the St Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchyi oil depot after the attack, Governor Alexander Beglov said. At least five people were hurt in the attack.
Ozon, called Russia’s Amazon, has its logistics centre hacked, while Facebook equivalent Kontakte’s data centre was also affected. Kyiv has yet to comment on the strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Saturday morning that Russia had struck his country’s energy industry 76 times since Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire last week.
Ukraine had suspended strikes on Russian oil facilities, which it says seek to reduce the major source of financing for Moscow’s war effort, for three days after the statement, while accusing Russia of continuing to do so.
It restarted strikes earlier this week and drew the ire of Trump, who asked for a truce to allow an agreement he reached with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to supply diesel. Ukraine has targeted St. Petersburg in the past, although threats are more typically directed at areas closer to Ukraine. The city’s oil terminal was last damaged in July.
