Retailers claim that in the past week, just days after Donald Trump won the US presidential election, online sales of emergency contraceptives, such as the morning-after pill Plan B, have surged in the US.

According to Monica Cepak, CEO of the sexual and reproductive telehealth business Wisp, the spike in purchases indicates that women are worried about how a future Trump government would limit their access to emergency contraception and are getting ready now. After Tuesday’s election, sales of emergency contraceptives at Wisp, which sells two varieties online, increased by around 1,000% in a single day.

Women are really hoarding emergency contraceptive pills, according to Cepak. Actually, a large portion of the rise in orders we observed was caused by the recent introduction of multipacks of Plan B. These multipacks account for almost 90% of emergency contraceptive orders.

Sales of the morning-after pill Restart at Winx Health, a startup that specializes in sexual and vaginal health, increased by 315% on the day following the election as compared to the 24 hours prior. According to the manufacturer, this indicates that on the day following the election, seven times as many doses of Restart were sold as during the entire week before.
