According to an industry expert, although robot check-in assistants streamline the process, many travelers are hesitant to use them.

According to Keenan Hamza, Vice President of Technology Futures & Innovation at Emirates Group, this was found during testing Sara, the first robotic check-in system in history.

Speaking to the media during the company’s yearly innovation festival, Forsatek stated stated, “We discovered that people avoid it when we put Sara in the business class terminal.” It’s a robotic device. Except kids who run towards it, nobody knows how to approach it. For us, this information is crucial.

The group places great importance on the startup ecosystem. Many of the innovations on display at Forsatek are either in trial mode or already used by Emirates in different departments. Their ambitious Aviation X Lab was launched in 2017, while their aviation and travel-focused incubator Intelak was established in 2016. There are currently 160 alumni startups between them. Emirates has invested in several of these startups, either fully or partially. For example, the home check-in system Dubz came through our program,” he said. “Now they are a critical part of Emirates and they have grown to other cities as well.
