Following an attack on a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz, President Donald Trump accused Iran of a “foolish violation” of the truce, prompting the US military to launch strikes on Iranian targets.

In reaction to a drone strike on a cargo ship on Thursday that prevented a planned evacuation of sailors stranded in the area, US Central Command said it had attacked missile and drone storage sites as well as coastal radar posts on Friday.

According to Tehran, the cargo ship was assaulted because it was passing through the Gulf canal on an unapproved route. Following the US strikes, Iran claimed to have hit targets connected to US forces and accused the US of breaking their temporary agreement.

The American strikes were referred to the US Central Command, or Centcom, as “a powerful response” to the drone attack that had occurred the day before. It claimed in a statement that the truce was obviously broken by Iranian forces’ unjustified attack against commercial vessels.Furthermore, since trade increasingly passes through the crucial international trade corridor, Iran’s risky actions threatened freedom of navigation.”
