China Delivers the first New-built LNG Carrier to Adnoc L&S

Adnoc Logistics and Services (Adnco L&S) declared on Monday that it had received ‘Al Shelila,’ the first of six newly constructed LNG carriers, from the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard.
The following five vessels are anticipated to be delivered in 2025 and 2026, with the current vessel arriving two months ahead of schedule. Following delivery, “Al Shelila” will be hired by a prestigious, international energy trader.

The UAE Consul-General in Shanghai, Muhannad Sulaiman Al Naqbi, Captain Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of Adnoc L&S, Lin Ou, Chairman of Jiangnan Shipyard, Tony Liang, General Manager, Wanhua Chemical Group, Rong Yao of CSTC, Norbert Kray of DNV, and Sebastien Fatet of GTT were present at the naming and delivery ceremony for Al Shelila.

Al Masabi stated, “Our growing partnership with Jiangnan Shipyard highlights the strong industrial ties between the UAE and China, reinforcing our shared commitment to driving global economic growth as we expand our fleet to meet rising global demand for natural gas.”

As part of its strategic fleet growth to fulfill the growing demand for natural gas as a lower-carbon energy source worldwide, Adnoc L&S won Jiangnan Shipyard shipbuilding contracts for the six LNG carriers in 2022.

With new build contracts for up to 23 new energy-efficient vessels in 2024—including eight to ten LNG carriers, nine Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs), and four Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs) the company further enhanced and modernized its asset base, adding more than 340 years of contract.
