The deadly fire that tore through high-rise buildings in Hong Kong on Wednesday is now confirmed to have killed at least 146 people. Police warned that they “cannot rule out the possibility of further fatalities” when they released the updated death toll on Sunday. 79 people were hurt in the fire, and 150 people are still unaccounted for.

At the Wang Fuk Court housing complex in the northern Tai Po area, seven of the eight tower blocks quickly caught fire. Widespread indignation has been aroused by claims that flammable building materials caused the fire. Thousands of people have gathered at the location to pay their respects to the victims during the three days of national mourning that began on Saturday.

People have been waiting in lines as long as 2 km (1.2 miles) to leave handwritten comments and flowers.NRomlah Rosidah, an Indonesian worker, expressed her “extreme surprise” at the large number of individuals who showed up to offer prayers for the victims.

She told news agency Reuters, “This event was only spread on social media, but turned out their hearts were moved. According to a Filipino employee, they participated in the prayers in order to “show the Hong Kong community that we are one in this situation.
