Russian authorities revealed on Friday that some regions are experiencing new gasoline shortages as Ukraine intensifies strikes on the country’s oil plants. Ukraine has been attacking Russia’s energy infrastructure with drones and missiles for months, trying to disrupt a critical source of cash for the Russian army.

Following an attack this week, Russia has shut down a large refinery in Orsk, located some 1,300 kilometres from the front line, for six months. The situation with fuel supplies to service stations remains tense in numerous regions of the country, according to a government statement on social media. Almost every Russian area has had to restrict fuel sales or implement other forms of rationing, such as prohibiting the filling of jerry cans.

The Krasnodar region on the Black Sea, known for its tourism beaches, has been one of the hardest hit.
The situation with petrol supplies at service stations has gotten problematic,” regional governor Venyamin Kondratyev stated.

Oil firms “have again started imposing restrictions on the amount of fuel supplied and reduced service station opening hours,” he said.”This is causing concern among the region’s residents and visitors,” the governor said, adding that he had asked the authorities to deliver more fuel.
