The third and last day of the G7 Summit in Évian, France, has begun. Last night, the leaders released a joint statement reiterating their “unwavering support for Ukraine in defending its freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The Group of Seven leaders will begin their final day in Évian on Wednesday. In a rare show of unity, the leaders approved a declaration reaffirming their support for Ukraine and its people.
According to the statement, Ukraine’s resilience has created new impetus on the battlefield, and in order to maintain this momentum, they will hasten the supply of air defense systems, interceptors, and long-range capabilities.
The G7 leaders also saw the new US-Iran agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as an opportunity to “put more pressure on Russia’s war economy.” In this regard, we will tighten our sanctions, particularly those targeting the oil and gas industries. Ukraine’s foreign minister, Andrii Sybiha, stated that Kyiv supports “the strong G7 statement with new steps to support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia.”
