Donald Trump may announce a preliminary deal to end the conflict with Iran before Friday, according to US Vice President J.D. Vance, following the president’s statement that the agreement had already been signed.

Vance described the US-Iran memorandum of understanding (MOU) as “about a page and a half” and a “very general” agreement. Senior US officials have already began to provide specifics of the accord, stating that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen on Friday, the same day the agreement is formally signed in Geneva.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, indicated that a new round of negotiations to establish a final peace deal with the US would begin in Switzerland on the same day. It comes as Trump attends the G7 conference in France, where the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates will meet on Tuesday for a special session on Iran.

During talks with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, Trump stated, referring to the preliminary agreement, “I am very happy to say it’s signed, the deal is all signed”. According to US authorities, Trump, Vance, and Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf all signed it electronically.
