As the Democrats secure control of the Senate and the House of Representatives in a historic victory, US President Donald Trump has attacked Republicans and acknowledged that they have done “a good job” in the US midterm elections.
Trump mocked Greg Abbott, who was defeated by Democrat Gina Hinojosa in the Texas governor’s election, in a post on his Truth Social platform, claiming that Abbott would not have lost if he “hadn’t become a RINO in the last six months. The president declared that the Republicans “would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” if he had been on the ballot. However, he also said to The New York Times that he was “absolutely willing to accept” the election results.
Trump said he would “look forward to working with” the Democrats in an interview with the newspaper. However, he stressed that he would veto “insane” legislation that the Democrats would submit to his desk. After a few months of vetoes, they will call and ask, How do we get this stuff done? He added, “I have the power of veto, and we’ll collaborate. In an apparent allusion to his capacity to obstruct legislation in Congress, he shared a picture of a red cap with the word “VETO” printed on it on Truth Social. This type of cap is typically associated with his Make America Great Again slogan.
