Three US officials informed CBS News, a US partner of the BBC, that US President Donald Trump rejected an Israeli plot to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to one individual, Trump informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that killing Khamenei was “not a good idea”. Regarding the news, the president has not made any public remarks.

According to reports, the discussion took place after Israel attacked Iran on Friday. In a Fox News interview, Netanyahu did not either affirm or refute a Reuters report claiming that Trump had blocked a plan to assassinate the ayatollah.

The Israeli prime minister stated, “I’m not going to get into that because there are a lot of false reports of conversations that never happened. However, I can say that I believe we take the necessary actions. We’ll take the necessary actions, and I don’t want to become involved because I think the US understands what’s best for the US.”

Israel “in principle” does not “kill political leaders, we are focused on nuclear and military,” an Israeli official told CBS News. Those in charge of those projects shouldn’t be living in luxury, in my opinion.
