A feature tracker claims that WhatsApp for iOS is testing a new feature that uses augmented reality (AR). Users will be able to customise elements like lighting and surroundings during video calls on the platform thanks to the feature mentioned above, which is expected to bring AR capabilities. The feature, which can be accessed through a beta update, also supposedly has a dedicated low-light mode and the ability to add touch-up filters that alter the appearance in real-time.
According to the shared screenshot, dynamic facial filters are one of WhatsApp’s new augmented reality features. Users can now adjust various aspects of their appearance, including the video feed’s overall colour tone. Additionally, a background editing tool is rumoured to be included, allowing users to either blur their background or swap it out for one of the instant messaging platform’s preset backgrounds.
Two additional dedicated modes—touch-up and low-light—are reportedly included in the WhatsApp for iOS beta update. The latter is supposed to improve visibility in low-light conditions, while the former is supposed to add a facial filter that smooths out wrinkles and eliminates imperfections, similar to the face beauty filters found on smartphones.
