The action is being taken as Apple prepares to integrate technology from other artificial intelligence (AI) firms into its devices. This follows rumors that it was in talks to collaborate with Alphabet (GOOGL.O), a longtime search partner, on a new tab.
The iPhone manufacturer is also anticipated to discuss joint ventures with other AI firms in various countries, such as China, where Microsoft-backed OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT is prohibited and opens a new tab.
According to the Journal, which cited people who know the situation, AI startup Anthropic has been in talks with Apple to integrate its generative AI into Apple Intelligence.
Anthropic and Meta declined to comment, and Apple did not immediately reply when contacted for comment outside of regular business hours.
The Journal stated that the talks were not finalized and may not proceed but that agreements with Apple would enable AI companies to distribute their products more widely.
