As discussions between the US and Iran to finalize a peace deal continued behind closed doors in Switzerland, both sides issued public threats toward the other as critical sticking issues threatened to undermine efforts to end the conflict.

The peace negotiations aim to end a war that has caused tremendous instability in the Middle East and shook the global economy, and they are intended to kick off a 60-day period to resolve issues that have plagued US-Iran ties for decades. However, just as the talks began, US President Donald Trump threatened to resume strikes against Iran if Hezbollah did not stop “causing trouble” in Lebanon.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated: “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder.”Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reiterated that Israeli forces will remain in southern Lebanon for “as long as necessary” and pledged to prevent Iran from gaining nuclear weapons. We will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary to defend the valued people of the north and all Israeli citizens. Nothing will change that commitment,” Netanyahu stated.
