How the Defense Industry is Addressing a Skills Shortage

Defence was one of the few industries actively hiring graduates while Caleb was reaching the conclusion of his computer science degree and searching for his first job. A career in the defense industry “didn’t sit well” with him in the end, despite the attractive salary, career path, and job stability. “It’s one of those jobs where you don’t want anything you work on to be used.”

There is a persistent skills deficit in the defense industry due to a number of causes, including this discomfort about working on deadly technology. And as the UK government, like many of its friends, seeks to increase defense spending in the face of an increasingly unstable geopolitical climate, that disparity may grow.
